Womanly Gifts

I don’t understand why you can’t get a group of (mostly) women together on the internet without some kind of gift swap being organized.   Why? Why? Why?

As if a regular gift swap was not bad enough, this particular gift swap is placing bonus points on crafty homemade gifts.  I have been trying to finish knitting M’s Christmas scarf for about a month now.  Now I have to make something suitable for outside consumption??  WHY ME???????????

I had a horrible time getting gifts purchased for my family in time for the holidays, never mind making a trip to the post office.  And of course I procrastinated and the damn thing is supposed to be postmarked by thursday.

What is it about women that creates this drive for gift swapping?*  Does the estrogen just make us all mad???

*Despite above bitching, I signed up for the gift swap because I felt a lot of peer pressure.  Everyone else was doing it!**

**And I like getting mail.  Any kind of mail.  Speaking of which, Cottontimer — I finally recieved the lovely bag!  I will send you an email, but until then THANK YOU!!!!!!

if it makes you feel any better, i’m not doing anything crafty or creative.

  • HA! Peeeeeer presssssssure… To me it’s like those horrible parties you are subjected to as a woman, like tupperware and pampered chef and the expensive toy thing and the sex toys and the chocolate and God knows what else. I’ve made it my personal mission never to go to one of those again because I ALWAYS end up buying something expensive that I don’t want.

  • Heh. Well, if it makes you feel any better, I didn’t even think for two seconds about doing anything crafty. I picked up something cute, plus chose a couple of the Empress’ “gently worn” dresses that she’s outgrown and off they went. Easy. You can do it, Amber, I know you can.

hee, heee, don’t worry about it, I’m not sure I’ll even make the dead line and there isn’t a hope in hell of it being a handmade item – and in my case thats a “good thing” for the recipient trust me!

You should have seen my list of great ideas I started off with and then one by one I realized that I was never going to be able to make said “good idea” or it was going to be way over the allowed budget and so now I’ve just settled on something that I would really like myself and I just hope someone else likes it too -and if not hey its the thought that counts right?

hmmmm unless of course your my secret buddy in which case, you had better knuckle down to it and get shopping for something spectacular! ;)

  • Crafty? Yeah, SO not me. My gifts were all storebought b/c I wouldn’t have wanted to subject poor Amy D. to anything that I would have attempted to create. I am sure whatever you pick out to send will be fantastic.

So why didn’t you say anything? I’ll bet that a number of people participated only because of peer pressure. Surely none of us need any more demands on our time. If I can avoid these sorts of things, I do — and I always feel like the only bad guy.

  • I’m glad you finally got the little pouch!
