I just finished watching Barack Obama on Oprah.
He made me cry.
He is almost too good to be true. I am almost afraid to believe that a politician could survive American politics and come out the other side still idealistic and human.
I am holding my breath hoping he is for real.
I think he’s for real.
I’m just worried this country isn’t ready for him. I hope he doesn’t go the way of John Lennon and MLK.
I said the same thing to A tonight. I told him I was afraid to hope he would run for president because he might end up killed.
I have his speech at the National Women’s Law Center bookmarked…I forget what site tipped me off to it, but it is just amazing. When I get upset about the problems facing women in science (and business and just about everything else), I read that speech and it cheers me up.
I know – I feel the same way about him. I am trying not to put all my hopes upon him, you know? But he’s pretty amazing.
why is it that so many already worry for him running and getting himself killed?
I too worry this, though I would love to see him run…
he seems genuine to me.
He has to run, he has to get out there and remind people that it doesn’t have to be the way it is.
Keeping my fingers crossed that he’s as real as he appears to be.
i just read the feature on him in time magazine, including an excerpt from his new memoir … i said *exactly* the same thing to my partner: “i’m worried he’s just too good to be true.”
but i’ll say a little prayer that it ain’t so!
What does it say about our country that we have to consider him running and getting killed? That scares me. He seems genuine. I would vote for him. Maybe he’ll be the VP candidate this time…
I’m getting into Barack Obama, too…I posted an excerpt from the Time article on him on my blog – I just really, really like the fact that he seems to understand complexity.
I feel exactly the same way. (I think he is awesome, and yes, almost too good to be true, and I fear for his life if he actually runs for president)
I think he needs to run and I volunteer to be is bodyguard (hmmmmmm)
Me too
I too watched that Oprah show specifically because I adore Obama. I think he is the best thing in American politics in many many years. I want him to run for President with Deval Patrick as his running mate. They ‘get it’. They’re human. They love their wives and their kids. They can’t handle goodie bags and see the humor in it.
Barak Obama does give me hope. Hope that American can shed it’s racist background and elect a black President. Think David Palmer only without Sherry. I hope it happens soon.
I went to the library to look for his book right after the show, but it was out.
He is ‘real’ to the extent that he can be…have you read the Harper’s article? Very interesting, and also very important–it discusses the financial aspects of Obama’s campaign (that is, everyone is in bed with someone, or they wouldn’t get elected) and is a much-needed tempering of all the excitement.
Still…GOD he sounds good, right?
i hadn’t heard of him till this post, and read that article you linked to as well as others. holy crap, what could happen if he did run and *was* elected? do you know the amount of HOPE that would surge through this country? i’m completely impressed. so thanks for the heads up.
