We got an email from our agency yesterday which mentioned that there is a teeny tiny possibility that we could travel before Chinese New Year (Feb 17th this year). What that actually means is that we would need to leave around February 1 to get to China and back before the CNY festivities begin.
To get to China by Feb 1, that means I need to get our visa applications to the courier (who will take them to the Chinese embassy for approval) as soon as fucking possible.
It would mean we would leave in like THREE WEEKS. When the reality of that possibility hit home, I totally freaked out.
I had a timeline which included leisurely getting my shit together through most of February. I would be thrilled to go earlier, but it means I have to shift our preparation into warp speed.
Again, it is extremely unlikely we could go that early, but if it happens we need to be ready.

When will you know?????
Wowwweeee, that will be fast. We received our referral last year on 1/5 and left for China on 2/15, back on 3/3, and I thought that was FAST!! Just think, you’ll have that cutie pie that much quicker!!
Sacre Vache! That would be FAST! Good luck in the shitgettingtogether
Wow. I’ll be checking in with anticipation!
Sacre vache. Love that. Yeah. Moooooooove! Go! Go! Go!!
Amber, I don’t know about your consulate but the Chinese consulate in NYC has, for about $50/visa extra, a same-day option. A person has to go in the morning and then pick it up in person that afternoon. Good luck!
Is nana still going with you to China?
But how awesome would it be to spend CNY IN China! Not that that has anything to do with anything, but still. It would be SUPER cool.
OMM!!!!
That would be amazing. Maybe you should work on her name in the meantime. I’m just saying…
Or you could travel over Chinese New Year and stay a bit longer. We got our daughter & processed the Chinese end of the paperwork just before the holiday started and then just hung out until the US Consulate reopened after the holiday. It was a blast! All the cities were decorated for the holiday–there was tons of kid friendly stuff to do [thinking of M] and we really enjoyed ourselves.
Oh and the hotels were empty since people were all home with their families.
Travel soon! and congratulations!
whhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Wow, that would be totally exciting and scary all at the same time!
That IS warp speed, wow! I hope all the pieces fall into place and things go smoothly until your little one is with you.
I am so happy for you and join the freaking warp speed club. Love, P
