odds and ends
I finally found the holy grail.
I found a Banh Mi restaurant that has decent vietnamese sandwiches in my Midwestern city. For a mere $3.75, I can get some Banh Mi love. I had been counting down the months until I could get back to my favorite sandwich shop in San Francisco’s Tenderloin, but now I can have sandwiches any time I want!!
I swear, it made my week to have banh mi for lunch yesterday. The restaurant also has pho which is reported to be pretty good. Since my favorite pho restaurant was closed down for health code violations*, I have been looking for a new place to get some pho. I can’t wait!
*The problem was supposedly sewage in the food storage area…honestly, after I read that report, I kept eating there, the pho was so good.

I forgot to mention I had a post up at Antiracist parent last week. It was about M’s experience in China.
(Note to my BIL & SIL. You will notice the photo is not of a random stranger. Please do NOT email other relatives to point this fact out because ARP is linked to my blog.)

Speaking of relatives, I didn’t actually have a MIL story in mind so now I am going to have to come up with one. Anything for you, my readers. Though I should say, you appear to have questionable oral hygiene.

Hey, I put up with an ungodly long survey to get a MIL story.
Better be good.
Favorite tequila indeed. Didn’t even have good ones listed.

Oooh, I love Bahn Mi…which I affectionetly call “Chinese subway”…although I know it’s Veitnamese…it’s just when I first started eating them I didn’t know that….
Anyway…..we have to go all the way to Boston to get them, and about once a week we will get about six and I will eat them all myself! hehe…over the course of a week of course.
I make my own Pho at home, it’s not half bad.

Except Mayor Newsome or the City Council or (somebody) has decided to “re-name” the Tenderloin as “Little Saigon!”

I think I’m the one with the bad oral hygiene……pretty sure at least….and yes, when it comes to MIL issues my oral hygiene goes to ugly places….sorry about that…it just gets my juices going when it comes to MIL related issues…anxious to hear a good story

Not sure if you are interested or not but the book that our Mandarin Teacher is You Er Pin Ying. It is all in Mandarin without English translations. Apparently she would use it for guidance and then make the Powerpoint sheets for class.

I’ve been lurking for a while and your longing for banh mi had me thinking of doing a recipe so you can make it at home. But I don’t think you have time for that with little L.
BTW, I know you’re not in California anymore so I won’t rub it in too much, but there’s drive-thru banh mi places now.
Oh, yeah, and that $3.75 will buy you 3 10-inch sandwiches.

Glad you liked it! I get cravings all the time at lunch - unfortunately work is a 20 minute drive from the shop…

If you’re in the same Midwestern city I am, and I think you are, look up the address for “Indochine Cafe”. They have great pho.
