I swear, I didn’t forget about the story I owe you. Unfortunately, it has to wait until next week.
My great-grandfather died last night*, so L and I have to make the 7-8 hour drive to the hinterlands to go to his funeral this weekend.
Ah, nothing says fun like 8 hours in the care with a one year old. Not to mention trying out hotel life with a kiddo whose last hotel stay was when we practically kidnapped took her away from everyone and everything she knew.
Cross your fingers for me. It is going to be a long weekend.
* My great grandfather was 98 years old, so it isn’t a total surprise that he passed. He was an interesting guy and we will miss him.
I’m sorry for your loss. Grandparents and great-grandparents are very special and when they leave, they take history and memories with them that are gone forever. I still miss my great-grandma and she has been gone for 8 years now.
Peace.
My sympathies to you and your family.
My thoughts will be with you this weekend.
Yes-very sorry. My great grandmother died when I was 24 (she was 96). She grew up speaking Gaelic in a small “farming” (nothing like the midwest) community in Cape Breton in the late 1800s. I miss her laugh, her smile, and her eyes really did twinkle-but also all the experience of her life that I only had a glimpse of.
Good luck with the driving and hotel part, too.~lmc
So sorry for your loss.
Sorry for the loss of your grandfather. Good luck with the trip!
Sorry.
I am sorry. Even if it is expected, it is still a loss…
Delurking to extend my condolences.
Sorry for your loss. I don’t know what it is with this week…Animal and I just got back from NYC where his grandmother passed this week…geesh…
My thoughts will be with you.
I am sorry for you loss. I find that I go back and forth about the rituals surrounding death. But my experience says that seeing everyone gathered together to celebrate someone’s life is very affirming for all who attend. Go and enjoy being part of a family who had your great grandfather as a member. A man who has passed on a part of himself to you and your family and earned the respect of all.
