my precious

Since you asked, here is a picture of L’s new ride:

Mr. A and (mostly) I had been talking about getting a new/better stroller because I really disliked the bulkiness of our old Peg Perego Venezia.  My only real requirement was that it had to have a reversible handle so we could continue to work on attachment when L wasn’t in her Ergo carrier.  There are very few reversible handle strollers and I am a picky picky stroller whore.

I was leaning toward a Bumbleride and had budgeted about $350, but deep down, I had been wanting a Bugaboo since M was a tiny baby and I first saw one in San Francisco. I turned down a chance to get one for $475 three years ago, and I am still kicking myself.

Once Mr. A and I had a Very Serious Discussion about L being our last baby, I decided I don’t have more time to waste.  I decided to just buy the damn thing.  Mr. A loves orange, so the color selection was a nod to his acquiescence.

After my recent post about blogads, I realized I hadn’t looked at how much money had been placed on my paypal account since before we went to China.  It turned out that I had about $350 because my stats were really high then and I had a bunch of ads for mother’s day.  So, I used the $350 paypal plus $260 to buy it on ebay.

Of course, you will notice I spent much more than I would have if I had bought the damn thing in 2004 and I got 3 less years of use.  Not to mention buying that other stroller for $200.

Note to self, next time just buy the big expensive thing you want rather than tormenting yourself about the missed opportunity for the next three years.

Can I justify $600 on a stroller with the fact that we use it almost every single day?  Eh. Probably not.  But I don’t care because pushes smooth as a hot knife through buttah.

M also got a new ride.  It was much cheaper, but she loves it.  Mr. A, he is not as ecstatic (but he will suffer for his girls).

I am trying to add a similar posts plugin. Can someone comment to let me know if you see five other posts linked below this sentence? If you don’t see them, never mind.

Updated:  Dawn fixed the problem for me so never mind!

I only saw the possibly similar posts when I clicked on comments. It seems to me it would be better to have it before, for all your lurkers who don’t comment? Just my two cents, although I have to say I never click on the similar posts at other people’s blogs (I know Dawn has that widgit). Although my husband and I are currently trying to decide on strollers, and he wants a bugaboo, so I may go read about your stroller issues.

  • Ditto..only appears when you get to comments

  • Jess

I see them without clicking on comments.

  • Everyone told me not to get the Bug because LSP would be too old for it when she came home with us from China. Feh. Two months later I bought one and have loved it ever since.

  • You guys are like the coolest parents!

  • alecia

I use firefox and I can see them w/o clicking on the comments, but I am in the day-specific page, not the main blog page.

  • Ah, that stroller is delish.

$350 from blogads!? Yee gads, what am I doing? Even 1/7th of that would pay for my hosting service!

That is a sweet ride. I want a Bumbleride – since the moment I laid eyes on one in person. Mom and Pops are treating us to our first stroller, otherwise I would probably be getting some Graco deal. I know nothing about these things – I just like the look of the Bumbleride.

I don’t get it. I can’t keep my mouth shut. I am as trendy as the next person, but I would never spend as much as either of those strollers cost on something that will be used 2.5-3 years max. Makes me think the users have money to burn whenever I see either. Maybe, big maybe, if I lived in a city and needed a stroller for absolutely everyday (like if I didn’t own a car).

Your kids are the cutest ever.

We bought a zippy commuter stroller for Astrid and we’re getting ready to plunk down some serious cash for a BOB revolution so Albert can run with her/I can trail walk so in the meantime, I must suffer with our old Peg Perego Roma (of 1999 vintage). It seemed like such a great stroller when Elliott was a baby, and I do love that Astrid can face me when she’s in it (the real reason she hasn’t used the zippy commuter stroller yet) but oh baby, I want something pretty, (and orange) so desperately!

  • I have that stroller, the same one. Never has it been used and I wish I knew how to sell cause I would sell it, if I could, cause it doesn’t fit the 2 babies I have. It is a great stroller and that is why we originally bought it.

I have a bob double and a mclaren in orange and I love them. Orange for a stroller rocks. Not too girly, not too boyish!!

    enjoy—

  • the stroller rocks hardcore. i am totally jealous. hey, did i tell you that i borrowed my friends ergo? holy crap it’s so much better than the backpack carrier. i’m trying to decide if i’ll use it enough now to spend the cash on it.

i think those bike attachments are awesome. if we didn’t have hills on both streets that lead out of our neighborhood, i might actually bike and might actually use something like that. but i never use my bike. so… yeah.

  • Nice ride L!! And M too of course.

  • Daisy

Hey, congrats on your stroller! The bug is very cool + the orange! As a future adoptive parent (SAH now), can you tell me how you got into the blogads? A friend of mine & I started up a site and the extra cash would help a lot as you know. Btw, your kids are too cute too…I hope M is enjoying her new ride too.

  • Stroller obsessed? Let me tell ya about stroller obsessed!

A lot of blind people have gotten grants or voc rehab type funding to pay for that there stroller of yours. Apparently, it is da bomb as far as the tediously awkward chore of dragging your kid behind you onto public transportation and such when using a cane/dog. I was going to go for a grant for that one, but alas! no double stroller is to be found in the bugaboo line up.

So, first I got a used graco duoglider, which worked and was really the only option when the kids were in their infant snap in carseats. I could hold on to the carseat handle and pull it from behind. After they outgrew the carseats, the thing became impossible to drive. So, then I went on a quest for the perfect and perfectly cheap lightweight double umbrella stroller. Someone talked me into the idea of getting 2 singles with an attachment thingy. Reasoning that most of the time I could wear one baby and ride the other, and if need be I could click both together. Well, I walk MILES nearly every day. Those babies start getting damned heavy to wear. And when clipping two single strollers together, all you get is a very awkward double that is about 6 miles wide! The thing didn’t fit ANYWHERE. So then I went for a true double umbrella stroller. This has been working okay, I hang on to the middle handle and it is fairly manueverable except on really sharp turns. And then….

The heavens opened up! The clouds parted, angels sang!

    I found this:

Fisher Price Kid Utility Vehicle http://store.babycenter.com/product/left+nav+pgroups/shop+by+brand/a+-+f/fisher-price/kid+utility+vehicle.do?asc=false

Hippest thing EVAH! for the backwards driving, cane using blind set. As hip as we can pretend to be, that is.

I do note that for my trial and error purchases of my 5 strollers, three of them double, I payed approximately $260 total, which is less than the mere single you’ve got yourself there, but that doesn’t mean I’m still not jealous.

I guess I wrote a whole post here, but just wanted to share with you my obsessive stroller purchasing as well.

  • amy

I dont know much about strollers (yet) but that looks cool!!!

  • doris day

    Lisa,

That is the hippest thing EVAH! I had to check it out even though I’m not in the market for a pull-behind, or double stroller. Groovy!

  • Peg

Jenny, give your unused stroller that you don’t have time to sell to me!!! I will be grateful, and pay for shipping, and I will wish blessings upon you daily for years! You can feel good for doing something amazing for another mom. What do you think?

  • Laura

With things like that, if I use it everyday for year, would you be happy paying rent of 2 dollars a day? If yes, then you’ve done good buying it. I justify my $150 most comfortable shoes ever that way. I’d gladly rent them for a dollar a day, so if I buy them for $150, I’m doing bad at all. I think that the bugaboo is an awesome stroller!
