1st Child Vs. 2nd Child

1st Child:

Homemade organic baby food when time permitted.  Organic jars the rest of the time.  1st birthday had banana pudding to avoid refined sugars and trans fats.  No processed foods before age 2.

2nd Child:

Lunch today was chocolate cheesecake.  This was offered after she rejected chef boyardee ravioli.  And after I discovered the carrot cake that was my back up had nuts

  • oh yeah. sounds very familiar.

  • Gosh, I must be a really bad mom, LOL. I gave child #1 all that crap and still do! Heaven knows what I’ll feed #2 when he arrives!

  • I had all these grand plans. All organic, no sugar, no fast food. The girls love pudding and chicken soup from chik fila and they do eat some organic stuff but only by happenstance!

  • 1st child:

Multiple scrapbooks, baby book, mommy journal, personal webpage, hours of video of baby lying around wiggling

    2nd child:

Lots of photos trapped in the computer

  • That’s funny! For me it’s pictures and scrapbooks.

It’s not likely that I will be having any more but I’ve always said a second child would be getting a shoebox w/ all his/her pics in it and a gift certificate for a therapist’s office to sort out his jealousy over the first one getting detailed scrapbooks and photo albums chronologically organized! Oh well…I just don’t see myself putting in the same time/attention to detail the second time around.

  • This is soooo true! With my first, I was in her kindergarten class every day, helped with all the field trips and parties, etc. Second time around, I’ve done some of that, but am more than happy to skip a field trip or class party here and their. We were hyper-vigilant about what the first watched on TV, but that has relaxed a lot. Because the older one can’t stand the ‘little-kid’ shows, the younger one watches the ‘older shows’ – although still pretty tame stuff (Discovery Kids, etc.). With my older one I would freak out if she was out of my sight for an instant at the park…but I have relaxed about that as well. One thing I would like to get back to is doing more hands-on activities (crafts, science experiments) and day trips together with the kids. Oh, and I have the photos trapped in the comupter, too :~).

  • What does it say when the same rules apply to Child #1? We don’t do The Chef but we sure do other stuff, like “Hey! Have another juice box!”

  • Oh ya, if you can get them to eat even if it’s a donut you will feel happy! haha

  • Peg

I’m still upset at the child care provider who gave my kid a Cheeto. Prepare for lots of organic cheese, AmFam.

  • See I have slipped even farther because I have four.

1st and 2nd child never eat fast food, until we become part of a playgroup that meets at an evil arches indoor playground during winter.

So first and second child are 4 and 6 and have never had McD’s. Third child gets them while breastfeeding. Fourth child gets them as teethers.

    Sigh.
