My friend Mrs. Figby just did a 10 things post, so I thought I might just hop on her bandwagon.
1.) I decided I needed to find the equivilent of Netflix for books. My library has an awesome service that lets you request books from all the local library locations online. Then the books show up at the library two blocks from my house as soon as they are available. I read really fast, so I need to keep adding new books to my queue. Unfortunately, this method means I have to find actual titles of books rather than just wandering around the library and grabbing whatever sounds interesting (which I also do). So today, I signed up for GoodReads. I have already found some good reading prospects from looking at my pitifully small (3) friends list. If you have a goodreads account, help a girl find some good books by friending me so I can troll your read lists? (amfamblog at gmail dot com) For the record, I do not intend to spend a lot of time reviewing books I have read. That would waste the time I could spend reading other books. God, sometimes I am very geeky.
2.) I wish I had a local blog so I could review new restaurants we are trying now that both M and L can sit still for about an hour. Tonight we found a cool, little trendy comfort food place that served M the best PB&J I have tasted in a long time. We also have some serious love for a little south Indian dosa restaurant and a Puerto Rican/Italian place (why that combination? I do not know) we have tried recently. Soon, I am going to venture out the the Chinese/Indian fusion place that is getting good reviews.
3.) Along with that last one. Restaurant.com is pretty cool. We paid $6 for a $25 gift certificate at the restaurant where we ate tonight.
4.) For Xmas, my mom bought me a gift certificate to Dream Dinners. I think I can get about 7 dinners prepared in one visit. The only hitch is that I will have to clean out my freezer to make room for it all. I like to cook, but doing it every day gets old. It will be nice to have another option.
5.) M’s birthday is coming up in February. She is already talking about her birthday party. In the past, we have only done family parties and I didn’t have any real plans to change that. I need to talk to Mr. A about it and possibly dial back the birthday girl’s expectations.
6.) MIL has invited herself to visit for M’s birthday. Apparently she took time off to spend with Mr.A’s sister and the new baby, but SIL is “feeling better and doesn’t need the help.” SIL is smart, that’s what I think. Since MIL is off for an entire week, it will be difficult to come up with an excuse as to why we can’t accomodate her at all. Dammit.
7.) After the gluttony of Xmas, we are on a shopping vacation until at least the end of March. I am trying not to buy any non-essentials until then. That means no more aimless wandering around Target. The only exception is purchasing M and L’s birthday presents.
8.) I have convinced M that she really, really, really wants a booster seat as her birthday present, even though I was going to buy her one anyway. She has asked for one at least once a week for the last year, since she found out some four year-olds have them. For a while there, she was weighing herself every day hoping she cracked the 40lb mark. (37 mommy! 38! 36.5! How close is that to 40?) She has been a solid 40lbs for a month or two, so we are moving up to a high back booster. Besides, maybe she will actually be able to strap herself in. It is sad how excited I am by that prospect.
9.) My email box is a black hole. Emails come in, but rarely do responses go back out. If I owe you an email, you have my apologies. I suppose it is a lame excuse to say that I am an introvert via email too? I am trying to do better.
10.) 10 is really a lot of things. I am all tapped out.

where did you go tonight??
Besides goodreads, I love Amazon as my book love affair hot-spot. If I won the lotto I’d buy a few dozen bookcases and clear out the hundreds of books I’ve stored away in my wishlists.
I wish we had some Indo-Chinese places around here. I miss Dallas.
I added that book today so I wouldn’t look pathetic. Although, I’m not sure which is worse having just one book listed or zero. Zero looks like I didn’t have time to list. One? just looks sad.
I’m on shelfari-couldn’t possibly handle a 2nd book site plus ravelry-curious to hear opinions if anyone has looked at both.
I order books to be delivered to the neighborhood library too-that’s um, how I get in over my head with fines.
You might want to look into your black hole for the travel blog invite-it went out Wed night.
Sorry about the mil visit-hope it’s manageable.
Happy birthday to you and M next month! ~lmc
I signed on to Goodreads recently too! Not sure how long I’ll keep it up though…my intent is to do it for 2008 and see how many books I’ve read by the end of the year (but I may get lazy and not actually list the books I’ve read!). You can find me under “Eos” or using the email address above. Happy Reading!
Do you know about Bookswim?

It’s like Netflicks for books – no pesky running out to the library to pickup- the books come right to your door.
I’ve never heard about Good Reads – I’ll have to check it out. I have a book review site (that I update WAY more than my adoption site – I’ve read lots of great books in 2007 – if you check out the site, click on the 2007 Books page and you can see what I read, most with links to my reviews and also an asterik next to my favorite ones. The site is http://www.thewrittenword.wordpress.com
I have booster-seat envy. We’re at 33.4 pounds here. 40 is still an eternity of fighting with twisted carseat straps and poofy jackets and the towel that must cover the seat because otherwise the crotch strap digs into her bare-even-in-winter legs away.
The growth charts say Alex will be more than 6 before she hits 40 pounds if she stays on her current curve.

you inspired me to catalog my readings….here’s a link to my list…a work in progress.
Ditto on the booster seat envy. Amelia is at 35 lbs and holding and she will be 6 in a couple of months. Meanwhile, Isabel, at 3, is the same weight. This may cause a problem…
Just getting caught up on a few blogs and now I know where that extra few hundred hits came from.
If it makes you feel any better, I completely suck at responding to emails and comments, too. I feel guilty about it all the time, but nothing ever changes.
