You should move to Europe, where they don't do top sheets. I thought it was just a Scandinavian thing but then moved to Israel and when our top sheet brought from the US died, I couldn't replace it. I am NOT a good housekeeper - don't ever walk barefoot on my floors, if you know what I mean - but laundry I don't mind for some reason so our sheet (and now duvet cover, since we don't have a top sheet) gets washed weekly. I have lots of sheet sets in the US but they hardly ever got used because it's much easier to just put the sheet back on then have to fold it. I HATE folding sheets.

And on that note, I'm off to scrub my guest bathroom because we're having our first dinner guest since we moved to Israel 1 1/2 years ago. Go social life!

Sorry if the question may sounded judgmental... I was genuinely curious... :-) and I agree with the other commenter -- you ROCK because you blog about not really caring about this stuff. I don't change our sheets weekly either, more like every 2.5 weeks (longer for the boys, particularly the crib -- yikes, changing crib mattresses is hard, I hate it.

Have you tried t-shirt material (forgot the name of the fabric, sorry...) sheets? They're so soft! They do get torn much more easily, though... anyway, I think you should try those, they make the best top sheets.

Oh, wow, the situation with Mr. A's prospective job is so dicey... I'd be a nervous wreck about it if I were you.

I am NOT judging your housekeeping ; ) But I have sensory issues too (my ex husband always threatened to put a pea under the mattress becuase he was sure I would feel it-eh) and part of it is that I can't stand the feel of any grittiness in my bed-so I wash sheets every week.
In fact, I have always attributed the amount of time jb and I spend cleaning (the housecleaner was a disaster) to the fact that we both have sensory issues and notice things others don't.
Oh, and I had a question-how has some of your thinking about adoptive parenting evolved in the year you have known L? I know you have addressed this in some ways, but I'm experiencing a lot of shifts in my thinking in the last few weeks, so I am curious about your experience. And yes, I will share mine-but I need to go stuff an eggplant ; ) ~lmc

let me tell you that if the cleaning lady didn't change the sheets, they would never get changed. We sleep at the country house 2 nights per week, so I'm pretty sure last winter we went 3 months without changing them, which is about the same number of nights as you. This year, we made a point of changing the sheets every 3 weekends. In the city, thank goodness, the cleaning lady is in charge. So much so, I'm embarassed to admit I don't know where we actually keep the sheets.... we have no linen closet... maybe she brings them from her house?
