meme of five

Stolen from CrunchyGranola

1) What were you doing five years ago?

Five years ago, I was caring for 3.5 month old M,  finishing the last class of my master’s degree and stewing over the way Mr. A was working over 80 hours a week.  We were also preparing to move back to the midwest from San Francisco and planning our wedding.  For future reference, combining these events was not a good plan.  I honestly believed I would have a lot of spare time after M was born to plan my wedding.  Ha Ha Ha.  God, that was so stupid.   We also decided to move cross-country and into a new apartment with our 5 month old baby the weekend before our wedding.   Again, STUPID STUPID STUPID.  That was a very stressful few months.

2) What are five things on your to-do list for today?

We will say tomorrow since it is already 9:45 pm.  Tomorrow, I have to get up and drive to Starbucks because I am out of decaf coffee at the house. I will also have to either buy a cup of coffee there or come home and brew a pot of coffee.   Even though I drink decaf, I don’t wake up until I have had a cup.   We have take M to buy a birthday present for her friend, then take her to a birthday party at one of those places with the big inflatable bouncy things.   We will also have to clean up the house at some point tomorrow before the cleaning person comes on monday.

3) What are five snacks you enjoy?

-Cookies.  Preferably chewy chocolate chip or monster cookies.  But in a pinch I can eat oreos or those Dora the exporer cookies that taste like the old lemony McDonaldland cookies.

-Baozi. Seriously, one of my favorite food items.  I can eat almost any kind of meat baozi, but I avoid the bean ones because I still don’t get beans as a sweet.  I currently prefer Chef Han brand bbq or pork.

-Raisin bran with a side of cheddar cheese.  Seriously, reserve the judgment until you have tried it.  It is a great combination.

-Sour cream flavored shrimp chips. These seriously have to be terrible for my arteries, but damn are they tasty.

-Mochi. Again, I don’t love the red bean filling, but I peel off the rice wrapping and give that part to L.  We are a great pair that way.

I am not tagging anyone today, but if you want to do a meme, this one is fun.

4) What are five things you would do if you were a billionaire?

-Travel everywhere.  I would take the kids out of school and just take off.  That would be my dream life.

-Buy a better house.  Not a super-huge or fancy house, but one that is just a little better than this one.

-Pay people to fix things that are broken for us.  I hate to spend money on repair people, so lots of times I try to fix things myself and it ends up crappy.

-Get serious about philanthropy.  I would probably set up a foundation to give to some areas I am really passionate about.  Most likely pregnancy prevention, pro-choice charities, women’s reproductive health, girl’s education and orphan care (foster care/education/in-country adoption funding).  To me, all these causes are so naturally tangled together, it would make sense to direct my resources toward them all simultaneously.

-College trust funds for our girls and the kids in our extended family.

5) What are five of your bad habits?

-Swearing.  I curse like a sailor sometimes.

-Messiness.

-Staying up way to late, usually on the computer doing nothing.

-Sleeping in too late (see above)

-Not putting the phone back on the charger so I can’t find it when it rings.

6) What are five places you have lived?

I usually don’t name exactly where I live, so we will have to be a little vague.

-near the factory that makes superbo*wl footballs.

-near the world’s large*st basket

-near a gigantic horseshoe

-near a river that once caught on fire

-near land’s end

7) What are five jobs you have had?

-lifeguard

-frozen yogurt shop worker

-restaurant hostess

-waitress

-nonprofit fundraiser

“Baozi” — Our exchange student from China saw this post and said, “Oh, I LOVE it! Where can we get that?” So, my question is where do you get that? I would love to surprise her with it this week.

Thank you for your help.

What exactly are the Dora the Explorer cookies that taste like the old, lemony McDonald’s cookies?! I am child-free, so I have no Dora the Explorer knowledge whatsoever, but I would certainly not be above buying them for myself. I LOOOOOOVED those old McDonald’s cookies.

I love Baozi. It took me a minute to accept red bean paste as a sweet but it is now one of my favorites. Taro. Pork…mercy me.

I KNOW, what is UP with the RED BEANS. Especially that soupy stuff they give you at the end of the banquet. Ugh. Even my MIL doesn’t eat it.

I totally get the raisin bran/cheddar cheese combo. I like to toast raisin bread and then top it with a slice of sharp cheddar. If I do it right when the bread pops out of the toaster, the cheese melts perfectly. Love it!
