minutiae
On to less serious topics…
- Only 3 weeks until school starts. I already bought all M’s school supplies, her lunch box/thermos and backpack. We aren’t really going to buy her any new clothes until the weather turns chilly. We are super-duper fortunate that my good friend sends M and L her girls’ hand-me-downs and they are in immaculate condition. M may end up needing a few sweaters/jeans, but she will be dressed to the nines in
name brand or boutiquebeautiful dresses and outfits for the first couple months. She will need two new pairs of shoes so I am going to go get her feet measured today so I can order them online. I am thinking she will probably need a pair of maryjanes and maybe some tennis / gym shoes.
- Since we don’t have to buy new clothes, I am going to indulge myself and buy new socks for both M and L. Despite my best efforts to buy them all all the same kinds of only black and white socks, we seem to not have any matching pairs anywhere in this house. WTF?? I am so fed up, I am just going to throw all the old socks away and start fresh.
- Is it wrong that I already google-stalked all the kindergarten teachers?
- Our shopping hiatus is officially over today. (We extended it one week into august because we didn’t want to worry so much about expenses on vacation in July) I tried desperately to cheat and buy myself some much-needed new t-shirts and fall clothes last weekend but came home completely empty handed. Apparently, this year the designers have decided that women are actually 7 feet tall, so the t-shirts all hang down to the bottom of my ass. Is it too hard to make a standard, regular length t-shirt?
- Today, I read this article and then downloaded the Edison program. We are working on making small changes to help cut our energy usage, so maybe this will help a little. I have also been trying to unplug appliances we are not using. Baby steps, but every little bit helps, right?
Over and out.

Okay, so can I ask where the shirts were too long for you? I have The Torso That Ate New York, and shorter shirts + lower-rise non-mom jeans involve me showing a little more than I would like.

I’d like to know about those long shirts, too. I’ve got some huge hooters, and I can’t ever find a T-shirt that I don’t always feel like I need to tug at all the time.
I don’t necessarily want my *entire* ass covered, but I’d like to not feel like I’m flashing some crack every time I bend over!

CFLs will save you a lot too-I changed out all my bulbs when I moved 3 years ago. My coworkers tease me about leaving my computer on-you know, when you teach energy efficiency professionally-so I will try the Edison program and share it around here.
Since we’re looking at a 35% utility rate increase, I’m expecting to be wearing a lot more layers in the house-I can’t turn my thermostat any lower than where it’s always been…
Oh, and I just got a nice lot of shoes for S off ebay-never thought I would do that, but 6.50 for 4pairs barely worn school shoes.

We have the same sock dilemma here. I gathered up our oddball loner socks and used them as the craft project at my kiddos’ birthday party - They made sweet no-sew tiny dolls. Take that, sock-eating house gnomes/alternate sock-filled dimensions!

Those are the best backpacks. My kiddos own them too. They last forever and hold up great! I would never waste my money on anything else. I still have mine from college. It was bought in 1992 or 1993 and we used it as our main backpack in China in 2006. I AM NOT KIDDING!! Looks a couple of years old but not 13 or 14. They truly are that impressive.
Okay, I’m done.
Thanks for allowing me the time.
Googling teachers….hadn’t thought of it….thanks.

If you go myHip-T.com they have 5″ bands of t-shirt material that make t-shirts look longer
