It appears that two months without shopping has had an unexpected side effect. In the last week, I have tried to buy things at the mall, target, and another mall. Each time I came home completely empty-handed. Target for crying out loud! How could I leave Target with NOTHING?? (Actually, you can blame that one on a tired and hungry toddler. It wasn’t worth the struggle to buy new toothbrushes.)
I even spent about 1.5 hours shoe shopping online last night and didn’t buy a damn thing.
I wonder if this is a long-term problem or if it will resolve itself with more shopping practice?
Well, technically you bought something from me, so maybe it’s just a brick and mortar store block.
If you are really interested in a cure I recommend spending some time at Anthropologie, J Crew, Pottery Barn, or Williams Sonoma. That just may fix the problem.
Yeah, we went on a shopping break for a few months, and I never really did regain my shopping feet. When I look around at stores now, I know from experience that we don’t really “need” any of the stuff I see! I think that knowledge makes me a lot pickier, and so I often leave without buying what I had intended to…
I’m interested to see what your long-term experience will be with this!
I have the same issue, as well you know. Not even taking advantage of that great Hanna Andersson sale going on right now because I can’t say we “need” new dresses. It sometimes stinks when you become aware of just how much you don’t need. Takes a lot of fun out of shopping in general.
I was going to offer you commiseration, but then I thought, ya know, this is not a bad way to be. Frees you up from acquiring stuff that ultimately needs to get rid of. Although it can make it harder to buy stuff you actually need…
