I realized I actually have TWO Bloggers for Obama buttons to give away, so I had Mr. A pick two winners.
I went through a very impartial system of collecting all the comment names into one sheet of paper, cutting them all into roughly equal sizes and then having Mr. A select the names. I was even going to post pictures, but then I lost my motivation. If anyone wants to challenge the outcome, I can provide photo proof of the randomness of the selection.
The winners are Jenny and Jen! Both of you should have received an email asking for your personal information so I can stalk you send you your fabulous button.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment about their reasons for voting for Barack Obama. I will post my own reasons sometime soon.
I also want to thank those of you who are voting for McCain or are undecided or who may not even be voting at all ( Though if you are a US citizen, I wish you would because we need more people invested in our country’s future). You have been quite patient and polite about my political rambling and I really appreciate it.
Big sloppy Kumbaya and We-are-the-World hugs for all of you!

In other politically-related news, I spent about 2 hours making calls at the local Obama office tonight. I called about 80 different people (only got actual people about 25 times). The people we were calling were all actually living within walking
distance of my house and thankfully there were very few assholes.
It was MUCH easier than the door to door canvassing. As soon as someone would answer the phone, I would start blushing furiously, but at least they couldn’t see me. I am honestly quite phone-phobic, so this was a big stretch for me to do it.
I tried to wrangle some yardsigns for myself, some friends and some of the people I canvassed while I was there. There is apparently a national yard sign shortage. Who knew? I found this funny explanation of why there are no yard signs anywhere to be found, if you are interested. I suppose it is good reasoning, but I know many people who are grumbling about the lack of yard signs.
I also signed up to be a pollworker on election day. My mom agreed to watch the girls, so it will practically be like a vacation for me if I get selected. You know, the kind of vacation where you have to arrive by 5:30 a.m. and deal with the disgruntled public. I am also very excited about the $107 they will pay me, which I will add directly into my China-trip fund.
That is all I can muster for tonight. The introvert in me is just wiped out from talking to all those strangers. I must go recharge by watching some trashy TV.

I won!! Sweet…my blog address is above..go obama go!!!!
You can order yard signs ($8, not bad) and lots of other cool Obama stuff on his website http://www.barackobama.com/index.php (click on “store”)
Just FYI,
Corey (who ordered a yard sign this morning!)

Dang! Oh well
I am volunteering at the Obama HQ here in Portland Maine on Sunday night – can’t wait – and I hope I can pick up a lawn sign too. Those are hard to find locally.
Dang – I never win! Funny story – there’s been a rash of yard sign stealings in my aunt’s neighborhood. She ordered a ridiculous amount (she said a hundred I think) and intends to put a new sign out every morning. Apparently she did this for the primaries as well.
[...] won! I won! Yippee! I never win anything. So I’m disproportionately excited about that. Thanks, [...]
I feel duped!!! You said you would “have the girls pick.” And then you switched things up by having Mr. A pick. I am requesting a congressional hearing to investigate your actions. I do not think proper protocol was performed, certainly not notification prior to proceeding. Shame on you, Amber. and on Jenny and Jen for accepting such a controversial win. I demand a re-pick. There may have been a hanging chad on my paper-slip that affected the outcome. Please provide our photo evidence (and it better be time-stamped to prove that name-slips were clean prior to the pick)
It never even occurred to me that it might be possible to get a free yard sign. I had been planning to buy one on cafepress.com, but after reading this, I bought one through Obama’s website. Cheaper, and I like where the money is going! I totally see the point of that yard signs article, though. I’m going to look into the volunteer opportunities in my area.
Hey AmFam!
I want to congratulate you by stepping outside your comfort zone and getting out to support the cause you are passionate about.
Congrats to Jen and Jenny two bloggers I adore reading and respect!
I’m a Republican because I support small government at the federal level and more control at the state and city level. I am also a Christian and I have to say I am offended by some of the comments made by your commenters in your last posting.
When did being a Christian become Crazy? I can support pro-choice and gay rights (and I do) and still believe in God. I don’t agree with the Christian right…way too conversative for me…but for crying out loud don’t brand people who have faith as being crazy.
I believe that everyone has a choice in who they support, love and what they believe in their soul. Some way to the right Republicans are over the top, but then so are some way to the left Dems…
Some of us are smart, educated (2 degrees), passionate people who put their money where their mouth is (non-profit community organizer people!) we love our families, the enviorment and we love your children too! We are middle of the road people who pay too much in taxes, sit in traffic too often and stress about the big things, the little things and everything in between.
Our country is in awful shape. Yes GWB is one of the big reasons…so is our Congress (Dem majority!), because, as some of you must realize, a President cannot control legislation on his own…he is an influencer and has veto powers.
AmFam, you are always very fair and wonderful to read (unlike D****) but some of your readers/commenters are being a bit too snarky for my taste.
I always particularly enjoy the comments when people threaten to leave if their candidate doesn’t win or they’ll come back if someone is voted out of office…did you threaten to take your ball and go home if your team didn’t win too?
No matter who is elected President of the US, he will need our support and prayers that he is able to take the mess we are currently in and help us move towards economic stability and a more peaceful planet.
My daughter deserves that and so does yours.
Thank you for volunteering. I live in a state that will be going to Obama no matter what, so there’s little I can do on the ground. I really appreciate your efforts.
