My evil, selfish mind.
I don’t know what it says about me, but I can’t help but fantasize about ways in which the bad economy might benefit our family.
Way back in 1998, Mr. A and I had the good fortune of spending a month in Thailand right after their currency collapsed. We lived like kings. $10 a night beachside hotel rooms, hour-long massages on the beach at sunset, amazing food for chump change, it was great timing for a vacation. It has made me wonder what opportunities are out there in this mess.
For example, a recent story about Iceland’s economic collapse sent me into two days of imaginary Icelandic vacation planning. It sounds like the dollar would do really well there right now?
If only all this fantasizing would be a lot of fun if it were not not counterbalanced by my anxiety that some how the economy is going to wreck us financially. Yeah, that part isn’t so fun.
But in my imagination, Iceland would be lovely next summer.

The value of the Indonesian rupiah is crashing here. Exchange rates to the dollar went from 9.4 to 11.5 in 2 weeks and will probably go even farther.
So your dollar will go further than ever here. If you have any dollars to spare.

I had the same thought about Iceland when their economy collapsed. I’ve always wanted to go there.
By the way, I’m most impressed that you are actually doing NaBloPoMo. I thought about it for about three hours, and then went back to my regularly scheduled weekly postings.

Iceland is a lot of fun…but in the summer it’s at its most expensive, as the 24 hour party people go there to take advantage of the 22 hrs of daylight. So the economy may be crap but it’ll be priciest still at that time of year. I’ve gone in spring, when it’s still cold but you can enjoy the hotsprings and crazy landscape.
