Things are looking good for us in 2009!
Despite the drama-filled phone call this morning from MIL who is supposedly on her way to our house right now, though she threatened to turn around and go back home several times. I can hardly wait to visit with her…. NOT. (Was that too 1992 to add that NOT in there?)
The biggest, most exciting news is Mr. A accepted a new job yesterday!
It is a really fancy and important job that I can’t mention here*. A job that pays a lot less money, but where they also have an assumption that he will A) Not work most weekends, B) take vacations, B) not work on vacation (Revolutionary idea!!!). This job isn’t permanent, but it will probably last a couple years.
So a big whooping HOORAY for Mr. A who has been under a ton of stress for the past couple months both at work and with this decision. May he only work 50-60 hours a week this year AND get to go on vacation!
There was a lot that went into this decision, but I can’t write about it now because I have to clean my house and hide all the things I don’t want MIL to see.

*But if you are really curious, know about legal jobs, AND I know you, comment and I can tell you via email.

Congrats on Mr. A’s new job. Imagine that . . . a legal job that is less than 80 hours a week! That’s a rare find and will be great for your family life. I’m jealous since my husband is working long hours, even as we (well, I) prepare to leave for China for our 2nd child!
Happy new year.
I’m happy for Mr. A and your family. Congrats!
AWESOME!!! This is great news. What a happy start to 2009!!!
Happy New Year!
(patent attorney – that’s a snoozy 40 hr/week job, right?)
Mazel tov!! Yay! Very exciting.
Congratulations, and Happy New Year. The news about Mr. A’s job is fantastic. Speaking as a daughter of a man who worked so much that we’d sometimes only see him on Sunday, it is so important that he gets to spend some time with his family. And the reduced stress level won’t be bad for him either.
I’ve been meaning to tell you that I did try your sugar cookie recipe. I mixed up the dough while my daughter napped on Christmas Eve. That evening she and I made fresh cookies for Santa. They were fantastic! I cut the recipe in half, and it still made a ton. We finished the last two last night. Thanks for posting it.
Congraulations! I’m happy for you and your family. My husband’s an attorney too, but he works in house at a software company. It doesn’t bring in the insane big bucks, but he doesn’t have to work the insane hours either, so we like it.
Congratulations to Mr. A! Woot! It’s *SO NICE* to have a hubby who is back at home most of the time!
And this is in town? You don’t have to move for this job?
Happy NY…
Did he get appointed as a judge or a magistrate???
(I’m in the same state as you, but I wouldn’t say you know me. But I would be curious to know if he is a judge or a magistrate.)
Totally sounds like the job in the legal department that serves my organization….trying to be a little cryptic. Congrats! Enjoy the expanded family time!

Congrats! Happy New Year!
Congrats and Happy New Year to you all! Hope Mr. A enjoys the new job and that the hours will be what you hope they will be…is it an in house job? They’re often more reasonable than firm jobs.

Looks like the new year has new beginnings for AmFam. Thinking of you and wishing you the best
Congratulations! I’m going to guess that it’s in government / public service of some kind. But in any case, I’m sure everyone will be happier for having him around more.
Oh-soooo happy for you and A! ~lmc
Congratulations! And Happy New Year! I hope it is a good fit and you all benefit from the extra time together. And vacation. Vacations are v good.
What a wonderful New Year’s Present for all of you.
Awesome! I’m very happy for all of you.
And, I know very little about legal jobs, so it probably wouldn’t mean that much to me even if you did tell us.
Oh, how exciting!!! I’m glad that this seems to be such a positive and GOOD change for your family in this new year. Congratulations to Mr. A! Let us know (what you can) more about it!
Congrats to Mr. A! I’m going out on a limb here…is he gonna be working in the Obama administration?? In any case, it sounds like a great employment move.
Congrats on the new job, Mr. A! That’s awesome news.
I date the whole “not” thing to Friends, which would make it very 1995. (Yeah, yeah, the show started in Sept 1994, but it took a while, you know?)
Congrats to Mr. A!
Ok, finally made it to your blog and I’m going to start catching up, because twitter and fb can only take me so far. I had my guesses but they were obviously wrong.
Sent you an email anyway – but Happy New Year, Merry Christmas, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!
