I am going to come back to the IEP thing, but I wanted to do this too. I haven’t been online much lately because I have been helping my parents get their 2nd lake house ready for sale. Don’t ask my why they have two houses on the very same lake (especially because they live in the other one full-time), but they did.
They have owned the 2nd house for about 5 years and rented it out to someone who did not keep it up very well. They had remodeled the kitchen and bath when they first bought it, but we have spent the last few weeks cleaning it up and getting it ready to show. I was given free reign (and bossing my parents around privileges) to stage the house and make decoration decisions. The only limit was trying to keep the budget low, so we borrowed some furniture from our house.
Here are the before and after pics. Excuse the wonky sizes because I am running out the door and I wanted to get this posted.
Don’t these pictures make you want to go through your house and throw away all the clutter?

Looks super!
Can you come over to my house and declutter here?
OMG come here please!
Great job!!! I think I have the gene opposite of hoarders…I like to get rid (donate, give away, whataver) of unecessary accumulated crap at least once a year so yeah…those cluttered pictures were giving me anxiety. The place looks amazing now.
When we staged our house to move (years ago), we fixed stuff and got rid of stuff and it looked awesome. I kind of wanted to stay there.
Ooh, you’re good at this. I want you to come to my house and do the same thing. I was actually suggesting it to my daughter, when she said she like the hotel room we were staying in. I think it would be wonderful if someone came to my house and took everything away to make it look like that. All the stuff could be on shelves in a store room, and then, I’d have to go shopping to re-acquire it. I could tag stuff that can’t go from the house (for example, my computers), but otherwise you could have free reign.
I’d pay you to do this, too, if you lived anywhere in my neck of the woods. Maybe a business idea for when the kids are in school?
Holy cow — you have definitely found your calling!
The place looks like a different HOUSE!
We’re getting ready to list our house for sale in the coming weeks. Staging a house is harder than it looks. You did a fantastic job. I only home ours turns out as nice as this one.
It looks fantastic!
Wow you did an excellent job! Looks great. Good luck with the sale!
Great job!!!!
EXCELLENT job!
Although, I’m a little bummed you got rid of the cat pillows…
Amazing what some decluttering, staging and paint can do! Great job!
Wow – that looks fantastic! Nicely done!
What the hell was that…thing by the TV in the living room? Was that an owl wearing a Santa Claus hat?
I was just saying how amazed I was at how much we’ve accumulated in our 5 years in this house. I don’t like to save stuff, but it’s easy to do when you don’t move. I got rid of over 50% of what we owned when we moved to this house – now we’re collecting toys like crazy – now I REALLY want to have a garage sale – NICE work. I LOVE the color of the master bedroom!
Wow! Great job! Makes me want to buy it.
Impressive!!
WOW. YOU ROCK!! Your parents must be so pleased! I hope the house sells super quickly.
I’m going to show these *right now* to my husband. they’re awesome.
OMG you have all done a fab job, it looks like a different place!! Can I buy it?? Ha ha.
Just – WOW!
AWESOME job! And you know those three bottles of Pellegrino on the kitchen counter actually do sell houses.
Oh my gosh – the house looks AWESOME.
I could look at these kind of before and after pictures all day long!
[...] the house is good and wrecked. In a stroke of luck, my parents managed to sell their extra lake house last weekend. That means yesterday and today I finally got back all the furniture and [...]
