house news

Yeah, this is my worst nablopomo ever. I am just not in the habit of coming here any more. But on we go! Tomorrow, I will post the interview I did with my partner for the 2012 Adoption Blogger Interview Project.

A couple people asked what happened with our house. When we put it up for sale, I posted a couple pics here. We sold it FSBO. We had three offers in three days. We put it on the market on Saturday and were in contract by Monday night. Be relieved I was not blogging that process because it was very stressful. Here are a few more pics of the finished product:

After we sold the house, we moved into a rental house where we will hopefully stay until we build the new house years from now. Weirdly, we ended up renting the same house we rented before we bought the house we just sold. This house is nothing special and we didn’t ever think we would see it again (and we didn’t miss it at all), so moving back in was very very surreal. It was almost like the two years we were out if it never happened. They had painted it and put in new carpet and windows, so it is actually quite pleasant. (Except for the fact that there are roaches in the basement. I won’t blog about THAT either, but believe me I am not happy and I am now intimately embracing an exterminator.)

I am very much enjoying not having to paint or fix up a house in all my spare time.

We made a tidy little profit off the last house and we own the lot next door to it free and clear. We are now in the process of saving to build the new house. Apparently, building is much more expensive than buying around here. It will be worth it because we love the location, but $$$$.

We have a jar of stones and every time we save $150 we get to take as stone out. Once the jar is empty, we can start building. There are a LOT of stones in there!

The biggest take away from our experience is this: NEVER EVER EVER EVER have dark wood floors. It shows every speck of dust. Old houses have a LOT of dust. They were a nightmare to keep clean. Our new house will have DIRT-colored wood floors. I can’t wait.

Another post will follow about the new house. I know, you can hardly wait, right?

WOW, congrats!! You know that I would have totally LOVED the blogging of the house sale. I’m glad it went so quickly! Now… I hope that you create a house blog when all the money is saved and you start building the new house, ok? Pretty please?

I’m doing terribly with the daily posting, so I’ve basically given up, though I know that in the end I’ll probably post at least 30 times this month… but we’ll see. Thanks for answering the house question(s)!!

WOW I knew your house would sell fast, but didn’t expect you would be listing it so soon.
I wonder if the stalker will be back trying to see what the new owners are doing to it now that you’ve moved out;)

Congratulations! The house looks wonderful, no wonder it sold in 3 days! I am envious – it is our dream to build a house one day as well. I can’t wait to read about that!
